A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
