President Trump Calls Loved Ones of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to the White House

Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.

He noted that he conversed with her family and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Devastating Event

Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.

Presidential Call

The president said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed reporters. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Support

Community members assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to remember Sarah.

Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to aid public safety in Washington DC.

Remembering the Soldier

“She was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”

Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Legal Steps and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy caused the government to pause asylum applications and cease providing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of the Airman

The airman, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.

He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey stated on television.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told the program that she planned to meet with his relatives.

Legacy of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the state guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
